Wallisville

Description

Wallisville is a Trinity River impoundment originally proposed to provide Houston with water, help with flood control, and create the first stage in a barge canal to Dallas. Through public opposition and litigation over estuary and fishery impacts, the project was greatly reduced from what was planned in the 1960s, and now exists largely as a saltwater barrier to protect irrigators.

Location Notes

A marker at the turnoff to the dam from the public road could be a good site, since some key infrastructure is at times closed off.
