Description
Virginia Jago Elder passed away in 2018, with wishes that her Wunder Hill Ranch be used for wildlife conservation, equestrian riding, or as an animal sanctuary. A trust held title to the property and the trustee, the Houston Trust Company, arranged for 203 acres of Fayette Prairie, a subregion of the extremely rare Blackland Prairie, to be given to the Native Prairie Association of Texas. The Texas Land Conservancy holds an easement on the property. In order to restore the prairie, the land is currently being rested from grazing, and invasive huisache brush is being controlled. The prairie has also become a site for educators to share with visitors, to show what a prairie was and could be in the future.
