Description
Victor Emanuel was a noted birder, guide, mentor, and ecotourism pioneer. While still in his teens, he organized the Audubon Christmas Bird Count in Freeport, Texas, and as an adult, went on to found Victor Emanuel Nature Tours, to run camps for young naturalists, and to serve on the boards of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, the Nature Conservancy in Texas, and the Travis Audubon Society. His interest in teaching and inspiring young people to explore the outdoors has carried on in the nno-profit group, Victor Emanuel Nature Scholarships, dedicated to broadening access to birding and environmental education.
Location Notes
A sign could be placed in Mr. Emanuel's memory in Brazoport, where he started the Freeport Christmas bird count in the 1950s. Quintana Beach County Park may be a public location that would work.
