Description

Sewell Hopkins, a marine biologist and professor of biology at Texas A&M University, was known for his research on the impact of oil spills on marine life in the Gulf of Mexico, and his role in the discovery of the oyster parasite, Dermocystidium marinum. These research projects led to the creation of the marine sciences program and Department of Oceanography at the University, later evolving into Texas A&M at Galveston.

Location Notes

Given Hopkins' contributions to the Texas A&M marine science program in Galveston, a marker on the campus there might make sense.
