Description
Geiser received a Ph.D. at Johns Hopkins University, and taught biology at a number of schools, including a long tenure at Southern Methodist University (1924-57). His scientific research focused on isopods, a type of crustacean, while he also served as journal editor of Field and Laboratory (1945-1961), and as a contributing editor of the Southwest Review. He is especially remembered for his studies in the history of science, well documented in the book Naturalists of the Frontier (1937), chronicling the lives of Lindheimer, Boll, Berlandier, Drummond, Roemer, Reverchon and others active in Texas during the 19th century.
Location Notes
Given his three decades studying and teaching biology on the SMU campus, the approach to the Dedman Life Sciences building could provide a good site for a marker honoring Geiser.
