Description

Ronnie Lee Germany was a 26-year old Texas game warden who was killed in the line of duty on July 29, 1973. Originally a vocational agricultural teacher, he decided to pursue law enforcement and attended game warden school at Texas A&M, and became a warden for Texas Parks and Wildlife in 1972. While patrolling for hunting and fishing violations near Grigsby, in the bottoms of the Attoyac Bayou, Germany was shot twice and killed by Bernie Parish. A manhunt involving over 200 officers ensued. Parish was captured, charged with murder, and sentenced to life in prison.

Location Notes

A sign honoring Warden Germany's ultimate sacrifice might best be placed at the San Augustine County Courthouse, where the legal proceedings against his killer, Bernie Parish, took place.
