Bob Armstrong was a Texas state representative, General Land Office Commissioner, and assistant Secretary of the Interior. He also served on the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission. While a Commissioner, he made the formal motion to approve the purchase of the 212,000-acre Diamond A Ranch in 1988 to create Big Bend Ranch State Park, following many years of advocacy for the Park.

Given Mr. Armstrong's long interest in Big Bend Ranch State Park, it would be fitting to put a marker for him at the Park's West Entrance; FM 170 East; Presidio, Texas 79845
