Description

Born in San Antonio, Julian Onderdonk studied at the Art Students League under Kenyon Cox, Frank Dumond, and Robert Henri, and later attended the Shinnecock Summer School of Art, practicing under William Merritt Chase. He is known as the “Father of Texas Painting” and the “Bluebonnet Painter”. He is remembered for a tonalist and progressive impressionist style, and for landscape and structure paintings, often painted en plein air, in the Hill Country.

Location Notes

Mr. Onderdonk is buried at the Alamo Masonic Cemetery in San Antonio. That could be a marker site.
