Description
Aldo Leopold was a professor at the University of Wisconsin, celebrated author of A Sand County Almanac, and a pioneering American proponent of wildlife management and conservation. In 1909, early in his career, while still a student at Yale Forestry School, he visited a lumber camp near Colmesneil, Texas, in Tyler County. There he gained foundational experience in surveying, mapping, timber valuation and forest planning.
Location Notes
A letter from Leopold dated May 16, 1909 reports that he was writing from Fowler's Farm, 5 miles east of Colmesneil, Texas, in Tyler County. A marker could be proposed at the Tyler County Justice of the Peace office.
