Description
Nina Cullinan, a child of Lucie Halm and Joseph Stephen Cullinan, the founder of Texaco, was a Houston-based philanthropist. Her generosity extended to visual and performing arts and other causes during her lifetime. Upon her death, over half of her estate went to the Houston Parks Board, helping fund acquisition of the Lucie and Joseph Stephen Cullinan Park, a 754-nature preserve in Sugar Land. Her will stipulated that her gift was to create places of “beauty and peacefulness in the city” set aside for birding, hiking, picnicking, nature photography, and other low-impact activities.
Location Notes
An historic marker near the main parking lot for Cullinan Park in Sugar Land, a protected property that benefited from her philanthrophy, seems apt.
