Description

Bob and Mickey Burleson were early advocates and practioners of native prairie protection and restoration. Both served as founding members of the Native Prairies Association of Texas, and as commissioners for Texas Parks and Wildlife. Bob was known for floating and canoeing the Big Bend canyons, founding the Texas Explorers Club, helping establish Guadalupe Mountains National Park, and working on the Texas Antiquities Code. Mickey served as a trustee for the Nature Conservancy in Texas, the Texas Land Conservancy, and the Texas Audubon Society.

Location Notes

The Burlesons have a lasting legacy in the prairie restoration on their family tract at 5101 Berger Road; Temple, Texas 76501. A marker there would be fitting.
