Description
Lamb was a skilled fisherman, leading Fort Worth Anglers Club member, early promoter of catch-and-release, and also the author of How to Catch Game Fish (1936) and How to Catch Ol’ John Bass (1937). As well, he was celebrated as the photographer and presenter of a series of 16-mm color films that he shot in the Big Bend, Barton Springs, Caddo Lake, Medina Lake, Palo Duro Canyon and the Devil’s River. He showed these to service clubs, sporting goods stores, rod and gun groups, soil conservation districts, refinery crews, schools and youth organizations as a marketing strategy for Gulf Oil, helping viewers associate the firm’s fuels with the freedom of the open road and the great outdoors. His 1940 tour dates focused especially on the Big Bend region to drum up support for its 1944 designation as a National Park.
Location Notes
Given Lamb's promotional films for the Big Bend, perhaps a marker at Panther Junction Visitor Center would help connect his memory with the work of marketing the area and Park at a time when it was little-known and difficult to reach.
