Lloyd Shinners was a botanist who published widely, including 276 scientific articles and the technical book, Spring Flora of the Dallas-Fort Worth Area Texas (1958), established the journal Sida, Contributions to Botany, co-organized the Southwestern Association of Naturalists, and helped build the botanical library at Southern Methodist University (SMU), and oversaw the dramatic growth of the SMU herbarium, including the core collection which later became part of the Botanical Research Institute of Texas.
