John Tveten earned a Ph.D. in organic chemistry and worked as a chemist, but devoted much of his career to writing and nature photography, often teaming up with his wife, the accomplished naturalist, Gloria Tveten. He is known for his Houston Chronicle newspaper column, Nature Trails (1975-1999), and for his books Butterflies of Houston and Southeast Texas, Wildflowers of Houston and Southeast Texas, The Birds of Texas, and Coastal Texas: Water, Land and Wildlife.

Location Notes

Dr. Tveten was quite closely associated with Baytown, where he worked as a chemist and later wrote and photographed. Perhaps Sterling Municipal Library there would be a good site for a sign. Its address is 1 Mary Elizabeth Wilbanks Avenue; Baytown, Texas 77520
