Description

In 1963, State Game Warden J.D. Murphree was shot and killed by a poacher illegally hunting ducks in Jasper County, leaving behind a widow and three school-age children. The Murphree WMA, a 25,852-acre tract of fresh and brackish coastal marsh, is named in his honor.
