Topics
Description
Jay Carter, Sr., developed a glass filament winding process that became a critical technology for fabricating light, strong, and cost-effective composite materials, such as those used in rockets and wind turbines. With help from his son, Jay Carter, Jr., their manufacturing firm grew into a major source of equipment for the fledgling wind energy in the early 1980s.
Location Notes
The 1964 incorporation site for Carter's original firm, Texas Reinforced Plastics, is listed as 1022 East Fort Worth Street; Wichita Falls, Texas 76301. That location looks like a low-exposure industrial site. An option might be the site where the founder, Jay Carter, Sr., is buried - at Crewview Memorial Park, 1917 Archer City Highway, Wichita Falls, Texas 76302 - the location given here.
