Hubert Holloway Mewhinney
Description
Mewhinney was a prominent, long-time newspaper reporter and columnist for the Houston Post. Known for his column, “Meeting All Comers”, he used his wide curiosity and dry wit to respond to diverse reader inquiries. He wrote broadly about natural history, promoted its importance to an urban audience, and championed the preservation of the Texas “brush country”, barrier islands, and historical sites. Beyond journalism, he had varied interests in jazz, Latin, paleontology, and archaeology. He was in the circle of the legendary Texas conservationists, Roy Bedichek and Bob Eckhart.
Location Notes
