Howard Peacock was a writer and editor for the Houston Chamber of Commerce and Southern Pacific Monthly magazine, a director of the Houston United Fund and Texas Bill of Rights Foundation, an administrator for the University of Houston Law School, and a freelance writer. He was also a naturalist and long-time advocate for the Big Thicket National Preserve, volunteering for the Big Thicket Association, and writing numerous articles and books for its conservation (including The Big Thicket of Texas: America’s Ecological Wonder and Nature Lover’s Guide to the Big Thicket).

Since Howard Peacock lived in Woodville for a number of years, perhaps the highest-traffic nearby site for a sign would be at the turn-off from Highway 190 into Heritage Village Museum, run by the non-profit Tyler County Heritage Society.
