Topics

Description

Serving as game wardens for the Texas Game, Fish and Oyster Commission, Captain Joe Williams and Engineer Harry Raymond died September 14, 1919, while operating their patrol boat, Reliance, during a category 4 hurricane that hit Corpus Christi with winds above 110 mph, and a storm surge of 16 feet. They were among the first Texas wardens to die in the line of service.

Location Notes

With Mr. Raymond's work, and passing, near Corpus Christi in service to the state agency, Texas Parks and Wildlife, a marker at TPW's facility at 5541 Bear Lane, #232; Corpus Christi, Texas 78405 seems fitting.
