Description
Frederick Law Olmsted, the acclaimed landscape architect and designer of New York City’s Central Park, first arrived in Texas at Nacogdoches in December 1853. He subsequently traveled some 2000 miles through Texas, including east Texas, the coastal plains, Austin, Houston, and the Hill Country, including the German communities of New Braunfels and Sisterdale. He reported on his travels in an 1857 book, A Journey through Texas; or, A Saddle-Trip on the Southwestern Frontier: with a Statistical Appendix.
