Frank Yturria was a South Texas rancher, trained veterinarian, conservationist and philanthropist who put substantial lands in Willacy and Kenedy County under conservation easements to protect habitat and wildlife, including the endangered ocelot. The Botanical Research Institute of Texas recognized the Yturria ranch with the 2017 International Award of Excellence in Conservation. Mr. Yturria’s family has managed these lands since Francisco Yturria, a pioneer merchant, banker and cattleman, founded the ranch in 1858.
