Description

Euell Theophilus Gibbons was born in Clarksville, Texas, and went on to travel and work as a dairyman, trapper, carpenter, gold miner, cowboy, beachcomber, boat builder and ultimately a writer and celebrity. His books, Stalking the Wild Asparagus (1962), Stalking the Blue-Eyed Scallop (1964), and Stalking the Healthful Herbs (1966), together with articles for National Geographic, and appearances on the Tonight Show, The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour and Grape-Nuts cereal ads made him a household name and promoter of “nature’s harvests” of foraged, wild foods.

Location Notes

Recognizing Mr. Gibbons' birth in Clarksville, it might be a good fit to have a marker in the Clarksville, Texas Town Square, a centrally located and publicly owned spot.
