Edwin "Bud" Shrake

Born in Fort Worth, Bud Shrake was a journalist, sportswriter, novelist and screenwriter known as a “lion of Texas letters”. He wrote for the Fort Worth Press, Dallas Times Herald, Dallas Morning News and for Sports Illustrated. In February 1970, he published “Land of the Permanent Wave”, a Harper’s magazine article that highlighted the Big Thicket, and the environmental destruction occurring there, in the years running up to the creation of the Big Thicket National Preserve.
