Description

Neil Muller, was an American botanist and ecologist who grew up in Cuero, Texas, and received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in botany from the University of Texas. He taught at the University of California at Santa Barbara, where he founded and curated its herbarium and concluded his career on the faculty of the University of Texas at Austin. He took collecting trips to Costa Rica, California, Mexico, and Texas, with great interest in oak anatomy and hybridization, and in alleopathy, the chemical inhibition of one plant by another. He was also responsible for two monographs – The Central American Species of Quercus (1942), and The Oaks of Texas (1951).

Location Notes

Given his childhood in Cuero, and his curatorial work, perhaps a good place for a marker in Muller's honor would be at the Cuero Municipal Library; 207 East Main Street; Cuero, Texas 77954
