Description

Clay Miller was a rancher and conservationist known for his careful stewardship of his family’s 33,000-acre Chihuahuan desert tract near Valentine, home to mule deer, pronghorn, javelina and more than 300 species of birds. He is remembered for his appropriate cow/calf stocking rates, well-maintained water systems, participation in aplomado falcon reintroduction, and long-term support for academic research and monitoring on the ranch. Texas Parks and Wildlife recognized him and his practices in 2003 with the Lone Star Land Steward Award.

Location Notes

A marker at the ranch headquarters would make sense. It apparently is at 311 Texas Avenue, Valentine, Texas 79854.
