Description

Dr. Hubbs, an icthyology professor at the University of Texas at Austin, and expert on desert spring fish, was involved in the conservation of two endangered fish, the Comanche Spring pupfish and the Pecos gambusia, by creating a refuge canal in 1976 at Balmorhea, and then, in the 1990s, developing a more natural desert wetland habitat, known as a cienega, there.
