Carroll Abbott owned and operated Green Horizon, a pioneering seed company specializing in wildflower seeds. He worked to popularize native plant gardening, and was involved in founding the Native Plant Society of Texas in 1981, and in getting passage in the same year of legislation creating Texas Wildflower Day. Many of his insights are found in his book, How to Know and Grow Texas Wildflowers (1978).
