Description
One of the first nongame wildlife biologists at Texas Parks and Wildlife, Carl Frentress worked on aerial photo interpretation, bottomland hardwood systems, and waterfowl management for the agency. He also played a key part in pressing for a state constitutional amendment (passed by the voters in 1995 as Proposition 11) to allow lands managed for wildlife to be assessed for productive, rather than market, value. This shift gave a great incentive for many landowners to move from marginal farm or ranch operations to managing land for habitat and wildlife purposes. Frentress’ many contributions are recognized by the naming of the Frentress Unit at the Richland Creek Wildlife Management Area.
