Description
Barton Warnock was a leading botanist and authority on the flora of West Texas, especially the Chihuahuan Desert and Big Bend region. He collected specimens widely through the area, taught botany for 33 years at Sul Ross State University, wrote a number of books (Wildflowers of the Big Bend Country (1970), Wildflowers of the Guadalupe Mountains and the Sand Dune Country, Texas (1974), and Wildflowers of the Davis Mountains and the Marathon Basin (1977), and helped created a museum and arboretum now known as the Barton H. Warnock Environmental Education Center.
