In 1951, Texas Game Warden Gus Engeling, a WWII veteran who had served the Texas Game and Fish Commission for 12 years, was shot and killed in the course of pursuing a duck poacher in Darden Wildlife Management Facility. The Facility was renamed in honor of Engeling, depicted here with a photo courtesy of Texas Parks and Wildlife..
