Description

Based in Somerset, Texas, Kirn worked as an oil leasing agent, but was also a self-taught field researcher, scientist and taxidermist in Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas. He explored Texas with Roy Quillin, J.R. Pemberton and other naturalists, amassed significant collections of birds, reptiles, mammals, insects, and mollusks, contributed to the literature, led fundraising for Oberholser‘s Bird Life of Texas, and served as a lecturer in natural history at St. Mary’s University. Kirn’s natural history collections were donated to the Texas Memorial Museum and the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History.
