Topics
Description
Considered part of the Rockport Gang of artists, along with Jack Cowan and Herb Booth, Al Barnes was a noted painter of marshes, birds, and aquatic life, often using oils. Known for their luminous views of water’s shifting light and color, his pieces are held in private and corporate collections, as well as the Art Museum of South Texas and the National Wildlife Art Museum. His work helped capture and share the beauty, richness and diversity of the Texas landscape.
Location Notes
As a 40-year resident of Rockport, and as part of the Rockport Gang of artists (Barnes, Cowan and Booth), it seems right that a marker be placed near the Rockport Center for the Arts.
